RV Trip Planning Made Easy: Tips For Traveling On A Shoestring ...

The economy has taken its toll on vacationers and travelers everywhere. If you own or are renting an RV, you’re probably worried that a nice, long vacation may be out of the question. However, there are lots of ways to save money by taking the time to plan in advance. An RV travel guide can give travelers essential tips on trip planning to help trim the fat from your vacation while still letting you enjoy the things that are most important.

RV Trip Planning Can Reduce Fuel Costs

Everyone hates paying high prices for fuel these days, and recreational vehicles and campers require a lot of it. To minimize the cost of gasoline, be sure to plan ahead to have your vehicle properly inspected and do any necessary maintenance. Everything from properly inflated tires to taking the time to check fuel price fluctuations can improve your mileage. Look for websites that feature RV trip planning information; some of them have information on gasoline prices in major cities across the US so you can budget properly. If you’ll be staying for a few days in each location, towing a fuel-efficient car will give you an inexpensive way to make day trips.

Don’t forget that fuel consumption changes depending on other issues as well. To improve your mileage, keep your speed at 55 mph rather than 65. The faster you drive, the more gasoline you’ll burn up. The weight you’re carrying also has an impact on your mileage. Don’t try to pack everything you own! Travel light. If you aren’t sure that you’ll need it, you probably won’t.

Minimizing Meal Costs

Everyone likes to eat out occasionally when they’re traveling, but one of the advantages of camping is the money you can save by making most of your meals in your RV or around a campfire. Buy staples like pasta, sugar, and coffee in bulk at a warehouse store. Each time you make a stop to refuel, take the time to go to an inexpensive grocery store for perishable ingredients you’ll use within a few days.
