Local buses need a boost, riders say
Pinky, a rider at the Redwood Boulevard and Grant Avenue depot who declined to give her last name, criticized several local routes on a recent morning. She’s taken the 51, a Novato bus that travels from San Marin Drive to Ignacio, to get to the Indian Valley College of Marin campus several times. However, the trip from downtown Novato to the school, a 3.5-mile straight shot, can take as long as an hour with stops and delays, she said. The study, which was approved by the Marin Transit board of directors earlier this month, also found that a majority of riders, over 30 percent, were between the ages of 26 and 44, followed closely by the 17-24 age range. More than 60 percent of riders were employed, but approximately 65 percent of those surveyed were part of households earning less than $20,000 annually, compared to city and county annual household medians of $81,000 and $88,000. According to Marin Transit, the total cost of the Phase One improvements, including the consolidation in “the new 51” and extension of 49, would total $131,515. Though the cost of extending the 49 route, upping the new 51’s stops and run time and creating weekend service would cost over $1 million, consolidating routes 51 and 52 would save over $900,000. A ride on the 51 from downtown Novato to Terra Linda took an hour and five minutes on a recent afternoon. Riders included elderly women carrying groceries and plastic shopping bags and teenagers in skinny jeans and lime-green sunglasses. The tinny thrum of a bass muffled by headphones filled the air-conditioned space and several women conversed loudly about their pet rabbits.Cement San Rafael - News
An unidentified thief or group of thieves managed to wrest the "Y" logo from its sign on Los Gamos Drive in San Rafael, where the letter was bolted to a cement base, said Tim Byrd, the executive director.

Above the San Rafael Bridge, the canyon widens considerably. Close to the river, the path runs arrow-straight along the concrete channel. Off to the right, other pathways wander into the shade of an abundant selection of native and nonnative trees
Currently the 49, a route that runs through San Rafael and Terra Linda, stops in Ignacio, where riders must transfer to either the 51 or 52, but under the new plan, the 49 would extend north to downtown. In Hamilton, the 49 would run deeper into the

CALTRANS – San Rafael Bridge, San Francisco/Oakland, California ...
CALTRANS needed a solution for protecting concrete piers and girders of the San Rafael Bridge from the turbulent and corrosive sea water between San Francisco and Oakland. Our heavy duty, chemical resistant polyurea (previously called Engineered Polymers RSP-AL) was selected to meet the challenge. Our 100% Wet Cure Epoxy was used as a primer and the polyurea coating was then applied with a plural component high-pressure spray machine. This fast-curing, low odor, no VOC coating achieved an eco-friendly solution, minimizing downtime and extending the life span of the bridge significantly.
Our polyurea is a tough, low maintenance coating, designed to provide superior long-term performance under rigorous service conditions. It is suitable for interior and exterior applications, and provides anti-graffiti protection.
Our coatings prolong the service life of infrastructure and provide an excellent barrier from aggressive chemicals and acids. Aggregate may be broadcast into the coatings to provide a textured, non-slip surface for an extra measure of safety.
Ecolink’s coatings contain no VOC’s and are no/low odor. They meet USDA/FDA/CFIA requirements for incidental food contact and for use in regulated food facilities.
All Ecolink products are Green Building Materials and qualify for LEED credits.
