Creating a close family
It’s never too late to start a family tradition. Many think because their children are older, the window for traditions has closed. No need to fret, there are many fun and creative activities families can do together each holiday.
Holiday traditions are always the easiest; however, it’s easy to add something simple that the whole family will remember for years to come. For holiday specific traditions try:
Christmas - Read a classic story on Christmas Eve, such as The Night before Christmas, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, or any story of your liking.
Thanksgiving - Create a "Thankful Leaf," cut out and decorate poster board in the shape of a leaf and, before dinner, have each person write on the leaf what he or she is most thankful for.
Valentine’s Day - Create a healthy snack by using cookie cutters and bread to create fun heart-shaped sandwiches
Earth Day - Make a globe and decorate it with pictures of your favorite things on earth such a people, flowers, etc.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day - Create your own “I have a dream” speeches. This will help children realize the importance of goals and dreams; if the children are older, this is a great time to talk about how they hope to accomplish their goals and dreams.
Birthdays: Create a morning birthday song the family can sing to the birthday boy or girl each year.Creating the song will be just as fun as singing it.
St. Patrick's Day: Make buttons, pins, or fun green hats.
Easter - Make Easter baskets for those in need, or, instead of buying candy, let each member pick out a toy to donate to a local shelter.
Independence Day/July 4th - Make American flags together.
Halloween - C reate a fun Halloween dinner before trick-or-treating; have fun making mummy faces by wrapping hot dogs with frozen dinner rolls, and baking them.
