Want to install wood like flooring in elderly parents house. Needs to be less expensive than pergo but as good a product. Is there a lesser known brand that is just as good? Also, I have never done anything like this, so it needs to be pretty easy to install. Our budget is pretty close to nothing, but this needs to be done, their carpet is old and due to having dogs that have had many accidents, reaks. I need to get rid of the carpet for their health. I’ve seen pergo-like product at Ocean State Job Lot, never heard of the maker but the price seems right. Then again, I am leary of buying from a store that is not a flooring store. However, beggars can’t be choosy. My labor and very little money is what I can contribute, but can’t let them live with this germ-ridden carpet any longer. Due to the dogs, more carpet is definitely out.

There are lots of products just like Pergo and are a whole lot cheaper.I’ve used different brands that were glued together before they came out with the interlocking type which is much easier and better.Compare Pergo’s construction to other less expensive brands and you’ll see they are made the same with 5 layers I think.Your parents and Dog will Love it Good Luck

Cur with a utility knife.I haven t the chance to install it yet but looked like a good product.It s floating floor system and goes together with a self adhesive strip so theres no gluing. GL

pergo is a good brand of flooring.laminates are a dime a dozen nowadays.prices beginning at 69 cents and nice stuff for $1.25/foot.the wholesale clubs have a laminate with backer for $27 per 21 sq foot box.i’ve used this several times with success.in a pinch you can use 15 pound roofing felt in place of backer for a nice savings.

Don’t put any laminate in a house where dogs are likely to pee on the floor, or if there is any way that the floor will get liquid on it that doesn’t get mopped up pretty quick, especially a cheaper brand. Trust me, you’ll be sorry. Laminate, once it soaks up liquid, turns to garbage and it’s very hard to replace individual boards without tearing up the whole floor, and you better buy replacement boards when you first buy the flooring as it can be hard to find exactly the same kind and colour a year or two later unless you’ve bought a major name.
