Comedy review: Set List: Standup Without a Net

For anyone genuinely interested in comedy and comedians, this is the must-see show of the festival. Much more than an improv show, Set List not only gives you an hour of comedy, but also the clearest view there has ever been into the comics' minds.

Last night I watched Fred MacAulay struggle honestly and bravely; I watched Steve Steen and Andy Smart show how clever use of improv techniques can get you through anything; I watched Tom Stade get by with a little bit of cheating and a lot of personality; and I watched Phill Jupitus unleash a comedy creativity and off-the-cuff brilliance I never knew he had.

The deal is this - each comic takes to the stage and is given a "set list" (the list of topics he or she has to build their set around). They are then given 15 seconds to get their comedy head around it and their 10 minutes (or so) begins.

This is a set list like no other. It is full of the weird concepts and odd juxtapositions that have come from the minds of Troy Conrad and Paul Provenza who created the show. "Condom limbo" opened one set, "rash theory" another. Fred MacAulay's opener was "blood bagpipes" and his closer "bean card". I am still laughing at what Phill Jupitus did with "vehicle thirst" and "frank notice".

The audience themselves provide some of the items on the set list - a box of their suggestions for "little known sex acts" stands at the side of the stage and twice in their set the comics dip into it. This is addictive stuff. I genuinely want to come along every night and see how (all these guys are coming up to play) Jimmy Carr, Greg Proops, Glenn Wool and Robin Ince do.

The greatest thing about this show is, for me, not the funnies (and there is plenty of funny here) but how the comic approaches the gig. If you want to find out if your favourite stand-up is a genuinely funny bloke or not, this would be the place to find out.

Famous Comedian, Jeff Dunham is coming back

A famous comedian, Jeff Dunham, became a wealthy person just in a short time through his career. In Dallas , Dunham’s parents raised Jeff Dunham, who was born in 1962. At the age of 8, he started learning the ventriloquism art and spent his young life working in local parties. Dunham jetted off to work for corporate events when he was in college on his weekends.

In the following year, he started to gain more recognition from his audience. Surprisingly, Dunham has earned about $600,000 a year after his show appeared on TV special on Comedy Central in 2003. However, he is still ambitious to make development on his performance in order to gain more fame. In 2006, DVD of Dunham, “Arguing With Myself” was released and that DVD broadcasted on Comedy Central.

In the Forbes list, Dunham has been named in the list of top comedians who have been earning a lot of money, such as Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock. In fact, Pollstar said that Dunham earned over $ 34.6 million from his 2009 tours. After long break, a presence of famous Comedian Jeff Dunham is going to appear for a show in Toledo in 27th of November. The show of Dunham will be at 5 p.m. of Sunday. Plus, the prices of ticket haven’t been made.
