UNDATED (AP) Two top executives of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey say they support a scaled-back plan by the states' governors to increase tolls on bridges and tunnels into New York City.

The Port Authority's original plan would have more than doubled tolls for some motorists from $8 to $17 by 2014.

The new plan by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo) and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie would raise tolls to $14.50 for some motorists by 2015. The $1.75 fare on the PATH train would increase 25 cents a year for four years, instead of $1 next month.

Port Authority Chairman David Samson and Vice Chairman Stanley Grayson say they'll move the proposal to their board Friday.

The Port Authority runs area bridges, tunnels and transit hubs. The governors also are ordering a top-down audit of the bi-state agency after a report found it paid $86 million in overtime last year.

SALEM, N.Y. (AP) State police say a spark from a water pump switch apparently ignited propane that had leaked and accumulated in the cellar of a rural upstate New York home, causing an explosion that obliterated the home and killed six of the 11 people inside it.

Investigators said Thursday that the home in Salem, 40 miles northeast of Albany, had two 100-gallon propane tanks out back to fuel the hot-water heater and cooking stove. Investigators believe propane leaked from one of the tanks and, because propane is heavier than air, settled into the cellar.
