So what is next for Central Florida as the 61-mile stretch of rail goes from DeLand to Poinciana? In the next few weeks, RFPs will go out for a company to build ticket vending machines.
There also will be an RFP for the public involvement piece, which could become a nine-year feather in a public relations firm’s cap. And then there are the contracts for the station finishes and the buildings beyond the platforms at the station.
“And we’re not done with high-speed rail, by the way,” Dyer later added.
One of the next big steps to consider is educating local work forces on SunRail and what it means for them, said Tupperware Brands Corp. Executive Vice President Thomas Roehlk .
Orlando-based Tupperware owns all the land between its headquarters and a planned SunRail station three-quarters of a mile away. He said the company already is trying create buzz with its employees about the rail, and is working on projects to increase ridership among employees, including have a free bike program where workers could grab a bike at the station and drop it off at the headquarters building.
What’s more, SunRail will make it easier for Tupperware to “continue to attract people to Central Florida, and we want to attract other businesses, as well,” said Roehlk.
Aaron Gorovitz , an attorney with Orlando-based with Lowndes Drosdick Doster Kantor & Reed PA , said SunRail took efforts from a lot of people to get to where we are today. His takeaway: When it came to SunRail, Republicans, Democrats, private industry, competing hospitals and competing theme parks came together to support the project.

It has to do with money, but not to the extent that people think. He’s not going to go to the highest bidder if they garbage. If that was the case, he’d stay in Orlando. He’ll take a paycut if he can go to a contender, but he sure as hell isn’t going to sign for the minimum either. I believe he wants to be “the man” wherever he goes. I don’t see him turning down the Lakers if they make a move for him. He sure as hell isn’t coming to NYC or Brooklyn. But don’t count out Boston. Aren’t they gonna have alot of cap room come the 2012 season?
