WSFS Taps Former Wilmington Trust Exec as General Counsel

WSFS Financial Corp. in Wilmington, Del., has named a former executive at rival Wilmington Trust Corp. to a key management position.

WSFS announced Monday that John L. Olsen has joined the $4.2 billion-asset company as general counsel, a position he had held at Wilmington Trust since 1994. Wilmington Trust was sold to M&T Bank Corp. in Buffalo earlier this year.

Before joining Wilmington Trust, Olsen practiced commercial law at the firm Duane, Morris and Heckscher.

Olsen chairs the government affairs committee of the Delaware Bankers Association and serves on the Pennsylvania Bankers Association's legal affairs advisory committee.

Mr. Kaplan is a Certified Business Manager and specializes in process improvement and organizational re-engineering, strategic planning, acquisitions, and diverse accounting systems. He also teaches Introduction to Finance as a part-time faculty member of Penn State University.

From 1991-1993 he served as a controller and consultant with Omicron Consulting and Omicron Systems, Inc.in Philadelphia. From 1985-1991 he served in financial management positions in the securities industry with companies including ProvidentMutual Management Company (Wilmington, DE), AMA Investment Advisors (Blue Bell, PA) and State Street Bank and Trust (Boston, MA).

Mr. Kaplan is past president of the North Penn chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants and the Philadelphia chapter of the Institute of Management Consultants. He is also a member of the Board of Governors of the Golden Slipper Club and Charities and has served on the Executive Committee of the Cornell Soccer Alumni Association.
