RISK TAKERS: Fun Center owners gave up good jobs to pursue unknown

YAKIMA, Washington - While most kids enjoy a trip to the ice, Mark Needham wanted to own one.

"I just thought it was the coolest thing," he said.

Now 59, Mark is co-owner of Meadowbrook Family Fun Center, which often young children and as far as the ice he went to all these years.

Mark will run his own business came early, but the possibility of an execution has taken some time.

After graduating from Eisenhower High School in 1970, Mark got married and went to the Central Washington University.With a wife and son to support two, Mark decided to get a degree in accounting.

"If you are a graduate in accounting, you knew you would find a job," he said.

After graduating in 1974, he has provided in-house accounting work for companies in the Yakima Valley. He and his wife, Sherry, had a third child, a daughter in 1976.

In January 1980, the brand began working at Fleet Mobile, a truck dealer. Later he was promoted to general manager and continued to work while pursuing various companies.

His first taste of business ownership came in 1985 as co-owner of the franchise in Yakima Bayliner boat: "It was hard work," he said. "But that does not stop me from wanting to have my own business."

In 1987, Mark has agreed to buy its partner's share of the concession by boat, and he focused on looking for his next business enterprise. He continued to save money for his work at Fleet Mobile Services.

He found that opportunity in a July 1987 article in the Yakima Herald-Republic on the miniature golf course in town.To date, Mark said he can not explain why this article caught his attention, but it was cut, dated and kept in its files.

A few months later, he saw an ad in the Herald-Republic for a miniature golf course used. He knew he had found his new company.

He bought the golf course and has invested $ 35 000 from his savings to install a strip of property he rents near the Meadowbrook shopping center at the 72nd Avenue and Nob Hill Boulevard. (He bought the property in 1990.
